In contrast to the inaccessible Nissan NV200, there is a wheelchair-accessible taxi vehicle already available to New York City. It’s reminiscent of the Checker cab and has comfort, space, and character for everyone. It is called the MV-1 and is purpose-built by VPG in Indiana. It can use traditional fuel or Compressed Natural Gas (CNG). On October 20, 2011, we were actually able to get into this vehicle and test-ride it instead of looking at it from the outside in.
Perhaps other car manufacturers will also see the wisdom of purpose-built, accessible vehicles because they are the wave of the future of taxi travel.
